Carola Uilenhoed wins European silver
On the closing day of the European Judo Championships in Tampere (Finland), Carola Uilenhoed won the silver medal. In the class above 78 kg, she came a close second to Anne Sophie Mondière of France. This is a remarkable performance for the just 21 year-old Uilenhoed. It also was the best performance by any member of the Dutch team.
The official time expired without either fighter scoring a single point. Uilenhoed was awarded a waza-ari by the adjudicator, but the point was subsequently removed following a jury consultation. In extra time, Mondière was the first to score a point, allowing her to take the European title.
