Since her excellent performance at the world championships in Cairo, in August 2005, Carola Uilenhoed has outgrown the category of ‘young and talented’ sportsmen and women sponsored by Plantina. She is now 20 years old, and has been a regular on the judo mat, for 16 years. She trains every day at the Mahorokan judo school in Maassluis, and the results speak for themselves. In 2002 she became European number three at the European Junior Championships. 2003 was set to be a breakthrough year, culminating in victory at the European junior championships. She started the year very well, but underperformed at the European judo championships, as a result of an injury. At a single blow, her plans and dreams were shattered, and the season drew to an end. However, she refused to give up, and worked hard on her rehabilitation. Now she is with the seniors, and trains under the supervision of national coach Marjolein van Unen. Alongside her intensive sport career, she is also studying to be a doctor’s assistant. With her long days, she is delighted to be able to supplement her diet with Plantina Multi and Plantina Vitamin C. Her primary goal remains a good placing during the Olympic Games in Peking, in 2008.
