The Ortho Company was established in November 1983 (operating previously under the name Plantina Nederland BV). Initially, the company was based in the western Netherlands (first Rotterdam, then in Baarn). Following establishment of the German branch, The Ortho Company GmbH in Rees on the Rhine, the Dutch offices moved to Gendringen in the Achterhoek.

Quality

The products are compiled on the basis of the latest European legislation (2002/46/EC) in terms of raw materials used and labelling conditions. The products are regularly checked by the Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (VWA). The Ortho Company operates according to the HACCP rules. For elite sportsmen and women, the products are checked according to the NZVT system (Netherlands Security System Nutritional Supplements Elite Sports).
All products are free from animal components, and therefore suitable for vegetarians. They are also free from genetically-modified agents. The products differ from many other food supplements through their inclusion of so few excipiens. They comply with the most stringent quality requirements.

Management

Managing Director of The Ortho Company is Ms mr. E.B.J. de Groot. Elsedien de Groot not only enjoys the advantages of her background as a health lawyer, but in determining the progress of her business, can also look back on numerous other experiences. Having studied law, she was associated with the University of Maastricht (health law), was employed as a lawyer on Curaçao, and in London was owner-director of the airline Flamingo Aviation Ltd. On her return to the Netherlands, she once again worked at the University of Maastricht (establishing in-service training for general practitioners), was employed as head of the faculty office of Nijenrode business school in Breukelen, and from 1989 onwards was deputy director of the BVG (today the UWV – the body implementing employee insurance schemes). From this managerial position, with more than 1400 employees and responsible for a budget of more than one billion euro, the transition to orthomolecular nutrition seemed very considerable. However, her unconditional support for the orthomolecular concept made the step easier. For more than ten years, now, she has been director of The Ortho Company.
